canon s50 or g3?

i cant decide on wat to buy... is the manual controls of the s50 can be compared to the g3 in terms of performance? i like the s50 bec its compact... while the g3 is so damn cool..hehhe..if u wer to choose wat would u buy?

Hi I have an S45. I was in similar situation of choosing one of G3, G5, S45, S50 and A80. I have choosen S45 because:

1- S45 is more compact, you can slip it in your pocket of trousers or
jacket (that is what I need when I quickly go out from home)

2- Its lens is well covered. When its closed I do not care where I put it.
I am careless person, can easily damage or make lens dirty.

3- We have a small kid, we can't invest on too expensive items.
I found best price/performance ratio on S45 (supported by reviews)

4- Performance, quality and manual adjusments are quiet close to G serie.

5- There are some lens-CCD incompatibility issues on S50 !
I read all the reviews and saw that they have just replaced the
CCD of S45 to sale it as S50. Without taking care of focal
lenght of existing lens and reprogramming internal software
for the new CCD.
Only difference between S45 and S50 is the CCD size (4 vs 5 MP)
S50 is suffering from few more chromatic aberations,
slight vignettings and few more barrel distortion compared to S45.

If you are not looking for pocket size cam with covered lens, I would go for G5 or G3.
