Ways to edit purple fringing

Some lenses produce purple fringing with high contrast objects. I have heard that there are easy ways to fix that in Photoshop. Is that correct?

Any suggestions on how to do this?

Something that has worked for me is to zoom in very tight and use the Sponge tool set to Desaturate.
