Some lenses produce purple fringing with high contrast objects. I have heard that there are easy ways to fix that in Photoshop. Is that correct?

Any suggestions on how to do this?

I used to have the link for a free one -- I'll see if I have it at home.

Something that has worked for me is to zoom in very tight and use the Sponge tool set to Desaturate.
