I kind of like the calendar view that elements 3.0 has, and I was wondering if there is anything else that uses something like that.

It is nice and easy for the GF/kids to use, but I was hoping for something a little cheaper to organize them in.

If I'm not mistaken, FotoTime has that

I think many people don't realize that Canon's ZoomBrowser is an excellent organizer and a browser. I use it to download my images from my A10, A80 and Rebel XT all the time. It sorts the photos in chronological order and there are few ways to view them. Also while passing the mouse over the folder, it shows a few images there - neat!
I used it to download images taken with Fuji camera - no problem.
Highly recommend . There is a new version just came out.

Extensis Portfolio seems great, it seems to have it all. This is the one i'm going to stick with.

Picasa is great and its free plus it has a nice and intuitive user interface. Doesnt handle very well offline pics tho.

Fotostation wasnt for me, since i dont need picture tweaking and the interface seemed a bit clumsy.

A lot of photo organizers available these days..

Hi Don,
I can recommend Image Bird(v2005) from IMOK-Software (http://www.IMOK-Software.com). You can organize the photos on your CDs as well with it. Browse your CD with the photo browser and it will remember them. So the next time you can browse / find these photos without having to insert the CDs. And you can even create a timeline for them. So in your case you could have taken a look at the "timeline" scroll to the appropiate month/event and there it would have been. You can even create more than one label for each photo. (But that will require some work, although they have created several usefull tools to speed up that process.)

It also creates an entry point for each CD and the folders on the CD that contain photos (They call it "My Media" located in the browser).

Try it. I am very happy with it myself as you probably have noticed.
The trial period for the software is 90 days and it is not that expensive.

Good luck!

Have a look at http://www.fototime.com/pages/faprointro. Really good....let you creat a CD also which can contain as much or as little as you want. With an auto run feature. Really great

Picajet crashes

Post Wed Nov 30, 2005 1:16 pm

I have had a horrible time with the newest version of Picajet crashing. I have a new Toshiba laptop with 512 DDR2 and a Pentium M processor. Should be strong enough.

I uploaded about 2000 files to the catalog (with many crashes on the way). At first I thought the problem might be due to the fact that I was using an external drive for the files. So I moved most of them over to the new computer. Still it crashes.

Also, it is dreadfully slow. Slow to open, slow to edit.

So far, I see no reason to buy the product after the trial. I will continue to give it more time, but I am pretty frustrated.

I was looking for a program under $100 that will organize my pictures and let me do quick editing. I have tried Adobe Photoshop Elements, but I hate that I can't move pictures around from outside the program. People say it is slow, I haven't found that to be too true with the organizer side yet, but the integration with the editor is a bit slow.

I have tried Picasa, but don't like that I can't give things more than one tag.

I will keep playing with my trials of Picajet and Photoshop Elements, but I might just go back ACDSEE or move to Picasa and hope it improves in the tagging department. Problem with ACDSEE is that I don't know what version my copy was on the my old machine that died, and I can't register until I get the right version. I've written ACDSEE and received no response. Anyone know a way to know what version a serial number goes to? My old copy was what was the version from early 2004

I now use Picasa too - its has the fastest search engine I have encountered - of course, its a Google product! I did use Adobe Photoshop Album but its useless if you decide to run a second (slave) drive as it will not be able to find the original image if you move it.

I have tried Adobe Photo Album starter. I tagged images with multiple tags then sorted with different criteria. It did a good job for a single user. However, I want to set up the tags then let other people sort the pics on their PC. Any suggestions for sharing pics with an ability to sort?

Here's a nice little freebie program. It uses small bit thumgs that make browsing faster than most programs, and has some pretty fair editing ability.

The of course offer a paid version with better features.

I have Pica Jet and actually paid for it but had problems as well with archiving to DVD, Didnt have time to mess with it so I stopped using it.
I still might test it out and compare it to ACDSEE

I had version 7 that I won on a website 2 years ago and just recently won ACDSEE 8 from the same website :D
So when version ACDSee Pro came out I was able to purchase it for only $49.00. It seems a lot bettter than olcer versions like 6 and 7 but I still need to test it to see which works better, PicaJet, ACDSEE Pro, or MS Image Suite2006 which also comes with an organizer that allows tagging files and archiving.

If you owned version 7 of ACDSEE you might have to pay for the full version 8 if you dont want to pay for the Pro version with is $129.
here is the link that gives you the upgrade options

For me, it is the combination of Archive Creator and iMatch

Archive Creator is capable of creating spanned collections of images with an HTML index of each collection (CD set) and a "master index" containing the sum total content of each individual CD index.

iMatch is the best photo indexing application that I have ever seen.

Check them out.

I used Imatch as well and for me you had to know too much code to get it to do what you really wanted.
I liked it in the beginning but when I needed it to do more then it seemed too much work. After photo shoots, who really needed to spend time on the internet on the Imatch forum learning to ad special code to do special features. I think we want something more simple :)
And I'm very computer literate, just dont want to have to do more when I dont have the time. I know all about setting up databases, so its not new to me, just too much extra work
