Photo Organizer??

Can anyone recommend a good program to keep your digital pictures organized and easy to find. I recently got into a situation when someone requested a shot I did months earlier and had a hell of a time finding it. It made me realize how unorganized I am. I have about 35 CD's and they are all mixed up with differennt stuff on all of them. I had to look at each CD with several hindred pictures and file on each one. OUCH!!

Try iView Media Pro. It lets you organize your pictures in different ways. Look them up and check it out. i Think you can get a free trial.

Adobe Photoshop Album
This will let you tag images with multiple tags. Here is an example. You take an image of the Yosemite chapel. This image can be tagged as “Yosemiteâ€

I downloaded the version of Adobe Album (30 day trial) and it didnt read any of my RAW files for Nikon, says they are not recognized files.

Why is Adobe not upgrading their organization software to read RAW when so many people are now using RAW files

Album 3.0 supports RAW it was just released and the stand alone trial does not exist (trial is for version 2.0). I don't know if the limited free edition supports RAW. It was just released this week.

The full version is available with PS Elements 3.0, so you could do the trial with it.

When on sale PS Elements 3.0 is the same price as Album...

Do you own the full version?
Does the full version get rid of some of the bugs that version 1 and 2 had?
I used to have problems with images that I moved to CD's. The thumbnails wouldnt always show up and sometimes using the software to move my images to CD's didnt always move them. Once I deleted images on the drive that I figured were on my CD and they didnt copy, even though Adobe Album said it was successful. Luckily I had them copied on another computer

It looks much better than the Adobe Album I tested earlier.

Saw your post and clicked on the picajet link. I watched their flash demo. I know a way you can save 100%. Don't buy it. Download Picassa. It's free. There was nothing I saw in the demo that Picassa doesn't do.

A picture exported from Picasa doesn't look as original (the same picture edited in Picasa).
Place two pictures (original edited and exported) side by side in Picasa or other apps and compare.
I remember that similar effect I had with ACDSee.
I sent mail to the tech support but no reply yet.
Because of that I can't use Picasa.

That may be. I don't know because I don't use Picasa for editing. There is much better software out there for that.

One of the major difference between these organizers is that PicaJet fully supports EXIF/IPTC fields. So your information can be stored directly into the files instead of the program database. Another major feature: PicaJet has hierarchic categories which also is missing in Picasa. Supported many national languages and so on.

Personally I have a hierarchy setup on my external hard drive. It looks a little like this:
HD: Photos: Clients, Portraits, Events, Still Life, Nature, and so on.

Inside each folder I have a sub folder. For example in Clients I will have different folders depending on the client. FOr example I have a client with a company called Sin Ink. If it is an event such as a wedding I will usually either give the folder a name by client or date of the event. Inside the folder looks something like this:
Client Folder: Originals (original files), Photoshopped (edited files), Web (web ready images), and Final (full quality jpeg-s).

To view the photos I use iView Media Pro and save the catalog file in the client/category folder.

I think I have outgrown this system so I am also looking into Extensis Portfolio to combine with iView. I am still not sure how it works so that is one of my home work items. I hope this helps somewhat.
