Have you e-mailed ACDsee to ask?

No I haven't e-mailed them ... just started looking for info.
Found severeal threads on dpreview.com and it seems they've withdrawn the support from version 5 to 6.
Rumors say they will support it in their new "Pro" version of ACDsee.

Maybe it could sound a little bit irrelevant here but I think ACDSee 6 sucks. I´ve always preffer the 4th version. 8)

It does, big time. It is also very buggy. Every time I try to open it on my PC I get an error and it shuts down -- something to do with an incompatibility with Apple iPod software. Version 5 works fine though.

How about Irfanview? It supports Canon RAW and Nikon NEF amongst a boatload of other formats. It's fast and, even better, it's free:

I also think ACDSee 6 sucks. I prefer Version 5

Hi,

I made utility for fast (about 2s for Uncompessed D100 NEF on my 450MHz Intel Celeron with 256MB RAM) viewing digital camera RAW files. Currently it support NEF files for
Nikon D100/d70/d1/d1x/d2h.

It is meant to be fast viewer, but you can also save files as JPG.

It support also Nikon D70.

Current version (1.04) has bug if you double click on image at Thumbnails view. You should click once and press 'T' (or Thumbnails icon).

I will post new version this week or start of next week.

You can download it at:

http://www.freehomepages.com/viewraw/

It is freeware for uncommercial home users.

Comments & wishes are wellcome.

Regards, Ales

Just tried the 7th version of the ACD pack.... I must say it is quite better than the 6th, wich still sucks. I think it is a good software for people that do not know that much about photoshop; it is easier, simple, effective, and faster... Hopefully now guys at ACD Systems won´t think I hate them. In this version they did their jobs much better.

As a user of ACDSee 6, I find it to be very fast (just bought a new computer though) and really like all its features. Its editing of course is nowhere near Photoshop, but as a browser its great.

I recently tried version 7 which supports RAW (including Nikon NEF), however I don't think its on a par with CS. I compared CS image with ACDSee v7 image and they were vastly different with CS much better with better controls.

Well I would be very disappointed if the CS conversion was worse than the ACDSee conversion, given the price difference

Hello,

I'm Christoffer and work for ACDSee. I read thru all your threads and thanks for all the feedback! ACDSee 7 can handle NEF as well as RAW images. The difference between CS and ACDSee 7 is that CS is a professional tool that costs about 10 times as much as ACDSee7. ACDSee is not CS so it's hard to compare the two.

RAW files are basically the raw unprocessed data created by the camera CCD imaging processor that may be saved in a modifiable format, such as TIFF, JPEG, etc. for editing purposes. The advantage of RAW files lies in their basic unprocessed nature; never modify the source and future editing will always be as close to the original as possible.

ACDSee uses a RAW image decoder library to decode the various proprietary formats from most of the popular camera manufacturers. It is necessary for software vendors, such as ACDSee, to update their image decoders as new camera models are released in order to support more advanced camera features.
To view a list of the RAW files currently supported by ACDSee, you may view the list of currently supported camera models here:

http://www.acdsystems.com/english/suppo ... le?id=2202

or within ACDSee:

- click on Help
- select Contents
- select Search
- enter "supported RAW cameras"
- and finally, double-click on 'Supported RAW cameras' in the list

The new ACDSee 7 is completely different from version 6, we have really created a great new version with 7 where we listened to all your feedback to make it better. Thanks for your help and if you have any questions, please ask me. :)

I use iView Media Pro to view my D70 RAW files. I did have a problem trying to view them, but then I figured it out. In order for iView to be able to read the files, the NEF plugin has to be installed with the CD that came with your D70.

This might also let you program view you NEF files. Give it a try, might work.
