Hi all,

I just found a button in Paint Shop Pro called 'Digital camera noise Reduction'.
Wow, what a difference it makes, especially in big areas of solid colour, like a nice blue sky. Why, oh why didn't I know about this before :x

I wonder if there are any other such useful hidden gems out there?

Most photo editing software will have some means of noise reduction.... it definately can make a big difference. There is quite a bit of 3rd party software out there. I like Noise Ninja. It isn't free but the price is reasonable.

Noise reduction also reduces sharpness. You might want to do selective noise reduction by selecting the area upon which you want the filter to work. The loss of sharpness in the sky will probably not be noticeable. Conversely when sharpening an image, select the area you want to sharpen and thus avoid enhancing the noise present in large areas such as the sky. Best wishes - Bob
