you can have a try for "Picasa" or "photo collage studio", which i have always used for image joining and compositing...

You should use the part of "picture collage" in Picasa, and it's free; photo collage studio is professional software, it provides many composite layout templates, you just need drag your images into the template. Different layouts decide the image numbers you can put into!
