Buy lightroom or upgrade to CS3?

I can use an educational discount to buy Lightroom at 1/2 price so it seems like a fairly good deal. I'm buying it as a gift for the beau who seems happy with Adobe 7.0 for now except he wants the RAW photo transfer feature.

Does anyone know if Lightroom will work sufficiently with Adobe 7.0? I've read the posts from Lightroom users who are extremely happy with this product. I don't want to depend on an Adobe customer service rep for guidance so I would appreciate any opinions.

System: Win XP
Adobe 7.0
Equipment: Nikon D80 28-105 Lens
Printer: Canon i900D

Here is an article that might be helpful

If you do a google search of Lightroom vs CS3 you will find more information.

Thank you for your reply. I've been reviewing Elements 6.0 which is an affordable upgrade with many attractive features.

You might want to check out this article by Richard Lynch a strong proponent for Elements

Photoshop vs. Photoshop Elements

Richard also writes Photoshop books and teaches courses online at http://www.betterphoto.com

I am signed up for his latest course on Layers that starts in January. He has a relatively new book covering primarily Layers in Photoshop.
