Image resizing and degradation

Post Tue Sep 04, 2007 5:14 am

I'm using Photoshop CS2 to resize my photographs to approximately the "large" PBase size (800 pixels on the long edge) before uploading them.

I'm unhappy with the loss of sharpness and in some cases color clarity when reducing the photos.

Can anyone give me advice on preserving the quality of my photos when reducing them for display here? I'd imagine this topic has already come up, but I didn't run across any related threads during my brief forum search. I there's a thread you could point me to, I'd appreciate that as well.

Thanks!

When you save, save with a quality of 8 (or more) - anything less and you'll likely lose more detail than you want. Also, you may want to try sharpening on the reduced image after all the other post processing. Do not sharpen the image until it's been resized.

Also... be sure you've converted to sRGB and not uploading Abode RGB or some other color space, as this will cause a lot of changes when automatically converted for web viewing.
