How to sharpen up image after resize

Post Tue Mar 20, 2007 12:46 pm

I have several jpeg images which I have resized using Microsofts 'right click and resize' utility. I resized them to Medium(Fits a 800x600Screen) and then used MSPAINT to cut it down to 750x250 (The size I need)

The resulting image is blurred and not the quality I would want for my website. Is there any way round this? Can the image be 'sharpened' up? and if so what software do I need?

I am new to image manipulatioin so be gentle with me

Thanks

Harry

Resizing goes a lot more smoothly in Photoshop, you can get Elements for (I think) $79US. You could then resize and do what's called an unsharp mask in 2 steps.
Nikon D300, D200
Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D, 55mm f/1.4 micro, 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G DX, 80-200 f/2.8D
Apple PowerBook G4, MacBook Pro
Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop CS3

There's also several other programs you can get free. IrfanView, Gimp, Ultimate Paint & FastStone are some which might do the job for you. Use google to do a search.

I use PhotoResampling and I like it.
