Ok. If you do a google search and look for "photoshop brushes" you'll come up with a list of sites for downloading brush styles. These can be used to apply textures and such by "painting them on" your image. Adobe's download site has links to them as well.

If you can locate an image of torn or crumpled paper you can layer that on the image and erase/fade to suit. Again, the download sites can offer up such backgrounds for use.

This image also employs some vignetting. There are numerous methods for applying that.

One could also ask the photographer how they did it. I'm sure there are multiple ways to go about it.

The Retouching forum on dpreview has a number of skilled, and helpful folks. Some of the members are really excellent in special effect post processing. I've seen posts in which they collaborated in developing techniques for Dragan and other formats.

I suggest you give them a try, Retouching is one of the most non-aggressive forums on dpreview.

Rick hit on a couple of ways to do it. I used a similar method in this image of my Niece I did a couple of years ago.
Scanned a distrest old fibre based print, then put some tea stains on white catridge paper and scanned that then blended them together using layers and different blending modes, as Rick says you may be able to find them ready made on the web..hope that helps.

1-Because it was just a photoshop exercise I did to replicate a old damaged photo.

2- the image is not spoiled because I still have the original..after all that is the beauty of digital
