monitor calibration for Gateway 21 LCD

Please help with any info as to calibration of an LCD monitor for photoshop CS2. Just bought this monitor and in past used Sony old style. Calibrated with colorvision spyder2 and it worked great. With new monitor went to website for help and downloaded new soft ware. Did calibration and is not usable. Can an LCD monitor be calibrated for use with photoshop? What are the correct steps? Help!

LCD Calibration

Yes an LCD monitor can be calibrated with a Spyder2. A couple of thing to check first:
1. Is your video display card monitor driver set for some other default profile? (right click on desktop - click on properties - click on settngs tab - click on advanced button - cilck on color management or calibration tab - make sure no unknown profile is set as the default)

2. Is another calibration routine loading at start up? ( click on start - all programs - Startup - delete Adobe gamma or any other monitor calibration routine, "ColorVisionStartup" should be here)

Follow the step by step instructions for the Spyder. DO NOT USE the suction cups. This will screw up the LCD panel. Refer to your monitor's specifications for the best answers to fill in the requested info. If you don't know the gamma rating, use "Default". If you can use a DVI cable do so. This is much better than the standard analog input.

Photoshop Elemants 4.0 "Help" on this topic reads as follows -- and it works for me. Assume this is the same for any Photoshop software

Note: Skip this calibration procedure if you are using an LCD screen. LCD monitors (such as flat-screen and laptop computer monitors) do not calibrate easily because viewing angles can change colors significantly. Instead, use the manufacturer-provided profile. (See the documentation that came with your monitor for information.)
