removing colours from photos

How do you remove all colours in Photoshop and leave certain items still coloured??

EG. A park scene and have all but the top of one tree b/w and the top of the tree the natural colours??

I've been meaning to add a quick tut on this for sometime, so I've added it for you to a gallery I have. You'll also find a few other little tricks, and several links to some video tutorials, and free programs. Hope it helps, if you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment.

Ive asked plenty of questions so hope this is a way to give a little back to some people.

Heres a simple way for everyone to edit colours that a mate showed me....

1) Open up Image you want to edit in Photoshop

2) Zoom RIGHT in, say 250+% depending on image (Trial and error).

3) Select the MAGIC WAND TOOL

4) Holding down the shift key, THEN click on one section/colour at a time on all the coloured sections you wish to KEEP until you have selected them all...

5) Once you have selected them all, goto the top menus, and click on SELECT -->> INVERSE

6) Next goto the top menus again and IMAGE -->> ADJUSTMENTS -->> DESATURATE..

7) Save it.

Then sit back and enjoy

A simpler way (Elements), open the image, hit Ctl J, then click Enhance, remove colour, then use the erasure tool to reveal the colour.

A controllable method I use is to duplicate the layer (in Photoshop), desaturate the top one and use eraser to reveal the colour layer below. Use a soft brush and preferably a graphic pen at a high magnification...
