Advice on books for the raw processing work flow

Post Mon Nov 14, 2005 7:06 pm

Hi! Everyone,

I have Photoshop component 2.0 but don't know to process raw image step by step in PS. Although I have a book talking about the general feature of PS, it doesn't provide me with a raw processing work flow that I can follow.

Could you please share your information about the detailed toturial/books that illustarate the step-by-step raw processing work flow in Photoshop component 2.0? Your advice is greatly appreciated!

Sorry for the mistake. What I have is the Photoshop Element 2.0. What I am asking for is the books for Photoshop CS 2.

It seems that I have to pay big $ $$$ to get CS 2 first...... :(

PS Elements 3 and 4 both support RAW.

Not as advanced as the filter in CS2 but better than the one originally supplied in CS1.

Gives a review on a book that handles both. Never seen it but it may be interesting.

Here is a nice little writeup on how RAW workflow goes ... http://194.100.88.243/petteri/pont/How_ ... tml?page=1

--------------------------

For me RAW is pretty much something I use for high contrast and poorly exposed images (to recover the data).

It also works great for composites like panoramas. And the fact that you can easily set and match white balance are great.

The general flow is not that much better/different than the JPEGs. But you give it a few extra steps .. White balance then a little sharpening then a little noise reduction. Now the process converts to the same as I did for JPEGs.

I thought that might be what you meant. But I figured just because I hadn't heard of it, didn't mean it don't exist

castledude nailed it. Elements 2 doesn't support raw files, or 16 bit tiff files. You'll need to upgrade to Elements 3 or 4 (that just released) or download a free raw converter like RawShooter. It's very popular and a lot of folks like it over Adobe's converter. Then you can use Elements 2 for your regular editing needs. If you are working with JPEG files (not 16 bitt tiffs) Elements 2 is worth hanging on to if you need to save a few bucks.

If you decide to upgrade Elements, that book castledude recommended looks like a real good one.
