How do I know if my monitor is calibrated?

Post Fri Nov 11, 2005 1:54 pm

I use a spyder 2 pro calibrater which seems to work very well. However when viewing my pictures on pbase on other computers they seem to come out very dark in comparison to everyone elses pictures. Is there a simple way to check my computer is calibrated to 'industry standard' if there is such a thing.
Thank you.

Your monitor is only part of the story. The other monitors that you view the images on also have to be claibrated to the same settings. Also, make sure that you save JPEG images for web display in the sRGB color space. That's the only color space that web browsers understand. If you have them saved as Adobe RGB or ProRGB for example they will not look correct in a web browser.

Check out "Monitor Black Point Check"

http://www.drycreekphoto.com/Learn/Calibration/monitor_black.htm

Also make sure your image editing software is configured properly and using your monitor's profile.

See http://www.computer-darkroom.com/ps8_colour/ps8_1.htm

Sounds like somethings off, hope this helps ya,

Lance

You can change the default by going to Edit Menu --> Color Settings

You change it for an individual image by opening the image then Edit Menu --> Convert to Profile.
