Film for soccer?

Post Sun Mar 22, 2009 10:10 pm

My son is playing in a soccer tournament (U15 age group) over the next few weekends and to do something different I want to shoot film (EOS 3). The games will be in southern California and Arizona so I am mostly expecting sunny days. I would prefer slide but I am open everything (even black and white).

Any suggestions?

The gold standard for action slide film is Fuji Provia 400F. It's terribly expensive, but it's the best hgh-speed slide film ever created. If you wanted to try some B&W I'd recommend Kodak's Tmax 400 or Ilford's Delta 400. Bright sunlight often leads to harsh shadows, and these two films are less contrasty than many other 400 speed films.

For color prints, Kodak's Portra 400VC would be a good choice, as would their "High Definition" 400 speed film, if you like less saturated colors. If you expect to do enlargements though, and bigger than 8x10, I'd choose Fuji Reala. It's 100 speed and is great for color and has very fine grain.
