Hi everyone,

I need some help. I am searching for a good macro lens (see photo) and came across an old Sigma 100mm f2.8 macro lens (see photo). Is it any good? Reproduction ratio is 1:1. I already have 90mm f2.5 Tamron, which focuses to 1:2.

Happy New Year.

Thanks.

Until you reach 1:1 you're not getting life size reproduction, so it's not true macro. I personally find 1:1 needs additional help by using extension tubes, or converters when shooting insects. But if you only intend on shooting large flowers like roses, then you probably wouldn't benefit by purchasing another lens. So the question is, do you need it? If so, you'll benefit by cropping less and photographing smaller objects which wouldn't be possible with what you have.
