scanning X-pan films

I am mainly a digital SLR user. However, I am so attracted by the X-pan that I have recently bought one. It is really expensive and difficult to get good X-pan prints in Hong Kong, so I am now thinking of buying a scanner for this. Which scanner should I buy? I am looking for one with reasonable quality and price (under US$ 500) and I don't want to use a photo stitching software to combine 2 parts of the scan. Can anyone give me advice?

In that price range, I would look at the Epson 4990 or maybe even the 4490. The latter is quite a good bargain but I am not sure about the OEM 35 mm holder.

I agree with the Epson recommendations. While alas I don't own an Xpan, I have shot panoramic 35mm with the Mamiya 7 adaptor, and have scanned some using an older Epson, the 3200. The negative holder which came with that scanner worked fine.
