Thursday Challenge - 5th March

Post Tue Mar 03, 2009 6:49 pm

This Weeks Totally Informal Transglobal Challenge is

"Album Designer"

That's right, never ones to miss the opportunity to jump on a bandwagon, this is your opportunity to join in the album design craze! there is one slight difference to the rules circulating elsewhere so read carefully.

1 - Go to “wikipedia.” Hit “random” or click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first random wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.
2 - Go to “Random quotations”
or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.
3 - Take a fresh image to illustrate the album - any image will do, but be creative :)
4 - Use photoshop or similar to put it all together.

Post a link to this image here on Thursday :)

Good Luck!

Lee and Bev

Okay, not one to waste time, I've already visited the Random Wiki link and my band is named after a Polish anti-tank blast mine: MPP-B Wierzba mine.

HOW COOL IS THAT?

I will have fun with this challenge because a mine is a terrible thing to waste

I'm glad you did this here! The idea is very similar to the CD Cover Meme project at Flickr... but avoids potential copyright infringement issues by using our own images.

Score one for the good guys. :)

It is easy to do....just bring up two pictures or more and then use the arrow icon and move one over on top of the other then go into layers and blending and then blend them together and save. Pretty easy!

Photoshop is not the only program that gives you text. The new Picasa 3 does it also.

For Photoshop: All you need to do in Photoshop is use the text tool. Click on the T (for text) to activate the tool, then write whatever you want on your photo.
Text makes its own layer so that's where layers come in. So before you save your photo, you will have to flatten the image. (Go to the menu: layers>flatten layers. Then do "save as....")

Here is the fun part with text. Along the top you will see different options, font, size, color, there is even an A over a half moon type shape, and more. Experiment with those options. The half moon thing will shape the text to any configuration so you can make it wavy, slant up or down, etc. If you go back to the "move" tool, (the little cross), you can move the text around the photo.

After you get the text the way you want it, and before you flatten and save, you can also go to the menu for Layers> Layer Style > Drop Shadow
This will give the text a 3D effect.

Flatten the image and save only as the last thing you do and you are done.
Hope this helps! :D

I would also suggest first cropping the photo into a square instead of rectangle to give the photo a real CD look. It doesn't have to be a perfect square, but more square than rectangle! 8)

thanks for this great idea! this was real fun!!!!
The random page was : SUPERNOVA
and the quotation was: ...would have a great body.
Then I accidentally moved from the page before I could copy the full quotation... never could find it again... yes random is random...lol
Anyway.. I think it makes sense and is great fun... so never mind...
