Honorable mentions:

Great use of lighting. The lens flare really adds visual appeal.

Perfect example of backlighting. Nice and sharp too. Great framing and use of DoF.

The umbrella really makes this image pop.

The black background creates a beautiful corona effect.

3rd place:

Aah yes. I love images like this where every bristle and hair shows.

2nd place:

Could have been the winner, but I can only choose one. Very well done and crisp animal portrait with great colors.

Winner:

Excellent use of backlighting, creating a powerful silhouette. This must have been a difficult shot to pull of. And the photo tells a story on top of that. Were you really following the bear? How did you find him? Was this your last picture ever before the bear ate you?

Awesome! Glad this shot won. I really like this one. Congrats to all the other placers. Some nice shots entered.

No I wasn't following her. I shot this in Katmai NP on an organized shoot with a couple of other photographers. We spent six days shooting this location. Been on other bear shoots but this one was just crazy with opportunities.

Unfortunately I didn't think it through before entering this comp. I'm headed out on a boat trip for 7-10 days beginning the morning of the 14th. So I won't be able to host the next comp. Already emailed Emily to pass it on to the next person. Sorry to all...

Greetings,
I sent Emily an email again to have her set up the S&T Competition so I can post the next topic. I will post as soon as I get the word from her.
As you well know if I post without her setting up the automated frame for this we have major problems getting on track again.
Best,
Walter

It sure puts a wrench into the works when someone can't host :(, especially when Emily isn't around !!!!

I don't think Pbase is the priority anymore. Set up the servers and format, get the clients (photographers) and then just let the buck roll in without doing upgrades.... Starting to delete pix and galleries in anticipation of Pbase's demise... Sad, as I like the gallery set up better than other photo hosting sites.... Boy am I ever negative...guess cause I've spent the last hour or so deleting pix and galleries. LOL.

If they made a mobile- and pad-friendly version, where you can swipe from one pic to the next, it could change the decline in popularity. I have asked the PBase staff about doing this; no reply.

Hello Again,
Still no word from Emily. I feel badly because it's my turn to post (and I didn't even win the competition) but if I do I will derail the whole train as was done last year.

I must agree that photographers should not post images in the Competition if they can not post and judge the next one. That's happened several times now.

As I wrote before, as soon as I hear from Emily I will post.

Enjoy your day!
