Great Photos on PBase

Post Wed Jan 07, 2004 8:17 am

Here's a really REALLY cute critter pic! Ever see a more adorable bird in your life? This is by Rachelita:
http://www.pbase.com/image/19811758

If you like it as much as I did (and you will!) be sure to vote for it! :D She also has some wonderful butterfly photos in her galleries.

Let's share great pics that we find so others can see them. And remember, quality photos like this one by Rachelita deserve our votes!

I have started a new thread for this since Don hijacked my last thread intended to show great photos by others. We can just ignore his interruptions and keep posting good photos, can't we? I'm game, if you all are. We should be able to just skip past any off-topic rants and go to the great photos we've found. :)

I guess this is the new random thread so i am reposting the one I found earlier. I found this at the top of the random generator.

It would be funner to make a thread that you post your own pics on though. These random threads seem kinda goofy to me. Seems like we could spend our a lot time more wisely by promoting ourselves and our own pix istead of promoting some random bloak.

I have /zippo in my favorites list. I love her swan photos. The little ones are so adorable, like these: http://www.pbase.com/image/23702199

I think this one should get two votes, one for each little fluffy cygnet!

The ones we have around here are different...have reddish bands around their necks, so maybe they are slower...I hope. I have done a lot of birdwatching with just binoculars and always see those guys sitting perfectly still. Now that I have my new Rebel with telephoto lens I hope to get some nice pics next spring. Really want to get some shots of goldfinches and bluebirds, and hopefully the elusive wood ducks we have around here.

I think you keep doing this to push your cheated galleries and photos down the lists.

One last post....after carefully reviewing the popular PHOTO 7 day and 90 day lists and the all-time lists for almost 40 minutes on dsl I have come to one conclusion.

GOOOFY

For a higher quality viewing experience, on a more consistant basis, with much more variety, try these popular GALLERY lists out.

it's especially goofy because until now, the results of clicking on "vote for image" weren't displayed anywhere.

so no one has been voting on images except for a bunch of people who have voted for all of their photos. what dedication.

it might be more interesting in a month or so, or maybe it will just sit there being goofy.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: I have since removed that large image which was a composite of screenshots of a string of 11 of my galleries that showed up in the 7 day popular list, and the comments that went along with it got deleted with the image of course, so I will put the info right here so you'll know what this thread is about.

I run a photo art and retouching site called Innographx and I had told my members one day that new members had signed up since my galleries (six of them, NOT in a row, no cheating indicated here) had made the pop list. The extra exposure was bringing folks to my site since I had our Inno url in my galleries. I suggested to my members that they place a vote for my galleries "if you truly like it...NO cheating!" Those are the exact words I used. I also asked members to place the Innographx link in their pbase galleries where they presented photo art that was done from one of Inno's challenges.

It was all just common sense to help our free and fun site get some publicity, and my statement about votes was just part of the general recruitment campaign. I had no idea that just a few votes could have such an immediate effect and toss 11 of my galleries into the list overnight! At the time I think we only had about 4 or 5 active members who were also members at pbase...a few more active members may have joined Inno since, but they were not members during this mix up, and most of the new pbase members are just names on the list and are not active at all, so I can't assume they even read my post.)

That's all there was to it. It certainly was never my intention to cheat, as I will attempt to explain further in the rest of the post. END EDIT
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wasn't going to say anything here, but I think I have to. It must look really strange to anyone going through the popular galleries list today, if it still looks the way it does on the screenshot I posted on this link, at least.

I was careful to say "only if you really like them...no cheating!" But folks want to help and I guess they can get carried away. I am sorry this happened. I do think my galleries are good, and you folks obviously also thought that 5 or 6 were good enough to be "popular" for some time now, but today...well...this is ridiculous, and not at all what I had in mind.

I hope you will forgive the mess I caused here, not intentionally I assure you! My innographx site really is full of friendly honest decent folks. Just a bit too enthusiastic perhaps!

Phyllis

No offense to whoever meant, it may be well intentioned, but I certainly don't want to receive messages like the following. If the old votes didn't count, so what, everyone is in the same boat. Man, I am just about to start using pbase as storage only and not participate in it interactively . - Gene

" Hi, you may not recall but you left a nice compliment on this image in my XXXX gallery. The reason I'm writing is because of a suspected problem with the new "popular photo" feature that Slug has re-implemented. Due to the low number of total votes in the "all-time" popular photos lists, and the fact that so many with just 3 votes are there (including some really lame ones of mine, I'm ashamed to say) I can only assume that all the older votes have been lost to this part of the system, which means that if you voted for the picture above when you left your comment, then your vote is not being counted now.

This is really just a test. I am NOT soliciting votes for my image to be on this list...my other bad pics already are...LOL! No, this is an important test, because I have brought this up in the forum and have had no response from Slug...he may not know himself that the system has this problem. I need some evidence to back up my logic, to figure out if my guess is correct. So... would you please go back to this image and click the "vote for image" link under it...whether or not you already did it before? I know you like it, based on your comment, so this is not an attempt to cheat in any way. It's a test of the system, and I'll let you know what if anything I can determine from this.

Thanks.

XXXXX"

Gene, I'm sorry if you misunderstood the purpose of this. I tried to make it clear. You did, after all, leave a compliment under my image, so I assumed you did like it. This was, as I stated clearly above, a test of the system to see what's what with the old votes. I am saddened that they were all lost. But NOT because that means votes for my images were lost, but that all the votes *I* gave to others over these many months no longer count for those deserving people! That bothers me...a lot! See, I can't vote again for them...the system won't let me! So none of my votes for some really terrific photos will ever count! Maybe this sort of thing does not bother you, but it does bother me.

I can't imagine why you would be upset by this PM. I really can't. If you read it well, it explains why I did it. I have started a new thread with a suggestion for Slug which would correct this problem by letting me and others vote again for the images we loved and voted for...votes that were deleted. If you don't care, fine. I do care. And I hope Slug cares enough to try to correct this so that people can get my vote back...and the votes of so many others who liked their photos.

I SEE WHY YOU ARE TRYING TO STEER EVERYONE TO THE RANDOM pix
I ALSO SEE WHY YOU WANT TO RESET THE VOTE COUNTS
You have exposed yourself again as a filthy cheat

disgusting cheaters and there friends

I was browsing through my "favorite artists" list just now and came across this terrific photo by Bob Sarrasin. I clicked on "vote for this image" and it told me "yes, it is very good but you have already voted..." What is so sad is that this image had my vote a while ago, but it's since been deleted by the system, and I can't replace it now. Too bad too, because it's photos like THIS one that belong in the Popular Photos list. And they might be there too if all the old votes hadn't been deleted. This particular photo won photo of the month at Digicams. All we can hope to do is keep giving NEW votes to these great images, since the old votes were lost.

So, if you like it as much as I do and as much as the folks at Digicams did, I hope you will cast a vote for it.

I try, but everday it seems, Phyllis calls slug a liar, misrepresents pbase, and has her friend flame me and call me an image thief.

I won't stand for this from a filthy liar and a cheat and her friends.

Then she keeps cheating here images and galleries to boot and making hundreds of garbage posts all over pbase

a filthy rotten cheat

trimoon and ugot started the flaming slander tonight, go read the long random thread
