Did you check the with html box? If you do have it checked. Cut and paste the code from there directly from the site and try again. The code seems finicky at times.

Hope that helps.

But can you HIDE the stats?

Post Tue Dec 09, 2003 7:13 pm

Great info, but I don't think I want everyone on my site to be seeing these stats... just a privacy thing (for their sakes)

Is there a way I can change the pasted HTML to hide the counter without breaking it? Or make it so it won't link to the stats directly?

I tried and got it to be invisible on a new style sheet and it appeared as if it was still counting. I was clueless how that happened. Usually if you mess with this code it breaks. I have some of my counters I messed woth working but no longer logging to the needstat top 1000 catalog, they still count though. Then I searched around and found a few sites that had the logo superDUPER tiny(not pbase members). Almost un-noticeable. I can probably find the page again but I could not make heads nor tails of the code. It looks like they are a paying member of needstat cu the code looked much different. They have a couple levels of fairly costly stat services they sell.

Someone I am sure can beat the system, but it is free. That's what they do is trade you the free counter for some exposure. They would prefer you did not hack it. To each his own though.

Someone here can posibly hack it gently though. Like I said I had it counting and invisible at one time it seemed. I just don't know how I did it nor can I repeat it. Then I checked into the upgrades and decided against them.

I was trying to find a way to make it a bit smaller when I was messing around.
Maybe someone will have the solution to small....I will be curious.

Cheers

PS...It is rather large icon thingy and that is a major drawback for me as well. :(

Another Counter and question on Nedstat

Post Thu Dec 11, 2003 1:38 am

My nedstat seems to be working but when I look at HOW people are getting to my page, the info there is not matching up to the number of hits I've gotten for that page....can anyone coach me on that?

Also, I found another free counter that may have more detailed reports and emails them to you. It's at statcounter.com. I pasted the code below,. I tried putting the codein just under my code for nedsat. It doesn't work. Can anyone tell me if two counters would not work together? or what it might be?

Vince

<!-- Start of StatCounter Code -->
<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
<!-- var sc_project=220603; //-->
</script>

<noscript><a href="http://www.statcounter.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://c1.statcounter.com/counter.php?sc_project=220603&java=0" alt="Website Statistics" border="0"></a> </noscript>
<!-- End of StatCounter Code -->

Mine does not work either. I have not checked it on a page without other code. :(

I checked another page without a counter and nothing either. Here is what the site admin from the site says to do. From the help forum there.

open your webpage in something like notepad, and insert it directly that way.

Update! Giving it a try

Post Thu Dec 11, 2003 2:03 am

Don, I will have to give that a try. So then I have to "view" source, past it in there, and then put all that code back into my pbase page? I will give it a shot.

:arrow: :arrow: I just went to look at the stats site and there were 11 hits. I was too impatient. I will replace the code and continue to monitor it.

I'm dumb with code. If you get it let me know. I have not had much success altering stylesheets.

It took about 30 minutes. I had removed the code so I put it back in and it seems to be working. I will let you know tomorrow if there are more hits. I placed the code at the very bottom, right under the code for nedstats.

Few more minutes to go. Neither of mine are working yet. Nedstat is though....

Well, the silly things just don't seem to want to do the trick for me. But...

I have noticed pages load very slowly with that counter so I did some research. It seems they claim 2ms plus some other fairly fast times. But some admin countered and said they said they have not probogated all of the international servers yet and some garb about bad routing of internattional isp's. The guy says his friend has troubles too. I get a lot of international traffic and that is no good for me. So I am scrapping this counter for now. These slow page loads are just too pecular. I can't have that. I'll try it again later.

Cheers.
