Quality of image and uploading

I'm trying to make a gallery of photos and am having some problems:
Most of the time when I click on "Upload" I get the page that says
it can't connect to the server. When I did get a picture uploaded, it
looked terrible, all pixelly and blotchy. It was a large .jpg file. Then I uploaded some smalll 72ppi files and they too were very poor quality. (I deleted them all.) This same thing happened when I tried another on-line photo sharing gallery also. What is happening? And what size photo appears the best quality in the galleries?

Not too sure what is happening. The first thing that I would suggest you do is check if there is a personal firewall between you and the internet connections. A lot of people have had problems with firewall set upper limit for file upload/download.

Another thing you can do to help us help you is to leave one or two uploaded images online so that we can see what exactly you mean when you say "all pixelly and blotchy".
