It used to be that a caption would appear below the enlarged image. Recently, I've noticed
that the caption is also appearing below the thumbnails. Is there any way to eliminate
the caption from the thumbnails, while retaining it for the full-size image?

Under the 'Advanced Gallery Settings' section of the 'Gallery Details' tab in the editor there is a section marked 'Show Captions' with a checkbox for " Show image captions with thumbnails." There is also a pull-down to select below, left or right for the location.

Thanks for the assistance. Just what I needed. The last time I had a pBase account was nine years ago. A lot has changed since then.
