Hit Counts

Post Fri Feb 04, 2011 3:15 am

When logged into Pbase, I noticed the hit count usually displayed below each image is missing. Likewise, the hit count column in gallery edit page is blank.

Statistics data is still being displayed as normal, a few days behind, but still showing up.

Anyone else experiencing this or am I special.

Thanks,

Tom

Noticed it a couple of hours ago on my phone. Just logged in on the computer and yes, the hit counter is missing. It had been stuck at 17 on my PaD image this afternoon for several hours even though I was getting comments. Something is going on FOR SURE.

BTW- Aggregate Page View stats have been stuck on the 30th since wellllll the 30th. I noticed that yesterday. Perhaps they are changing out the stat server Gerbils ;-)

Good to know I am not special.

That being said, it is working again.

I noticed that the overall aggregate hit count now only seems to extend back to early November, maybe they were installing that change. I wondered how much longer they could support going back to the infamous 9/24/2009 date. I would have thought a sliding window of 60 or 90 days would have been in the original design.

As near as I can tell (as one who spends entirely too much time on the Internet) the "instant of sampling" for the daily count bar charts is pretty random. It appears to me as though it happens about every two to five days. The daily aggregate seems as though it's on about a 25 or 26 hour interval, as periodically there will be no change for an entire day. Of course, it may have always been this way, I only started looking at minute details after the big crash.

Hit Counts are back

They are displayed now. I wonder if hits during the outage were recorded.

Back during and after the "Big Crash" indications were that hits were recorded; the recording of hits is apparently separate from the later machinations and display of the data. So my guess is we didn't lose any hits -- but then some folks think they are random numbers anyway!

I'm thinking the method of counting definitely has some flaws. I know others have used other methods of tracking and confirmed this suspicion. I think some page styles in which you reopen the page for a comment box may duplicate hits or something like that.

Aggregate is back up to date with a showing from Feb 3 of "0". As for my on page hit counter it is back but it is a good bit lower than usual for my PaD image. Maybe my PaD from yesterday just sucked...

Life goes on (uninformed about anything behind the scenes) in Pbase land...

Just checked and mine is broken. Why can't they just fix one thing so it works and doesn't crash over and over? I mean just one thing. I don't even care if they're right or wrong. I'd just like them to work. And yes, I have statcounter but I think if they offer something on their site, it should work. Or just take it off.

Well this one is an old thread, but there is currently a problem: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=48311p=371873#p371873

I reported it yesterday and got an automated reply, but so far, nada.
