Improved voting features

First to introduce myself. My name is Chris and I am the third developer at PBase.com. I joined Slug and Emily about a month ago and my first project is now complete.

This is a small addition, but pages will no longer have to reload everytime you vote on an image or gallery. Simply click on the "Vote" link as always and the link will magically change into response thanking you for your vote.

This feature is using Javascript, but we have designed the page to function in older browsers that do not support it. We have, however, tested the feature in the latest versions of Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, and Opera.

If you have any comments or questions about this new feature please post here. If you are posting a problem please indicate your Operating System (Windows, Mac, Linux, etc) and your web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc).

um, thank you, I think I speak for everyone here at PBase in saying that this has been a long awaited feature. I mean, so many of the other feature requests, like slideshows, watermarks, ordering prints, direct link stats, notifications, forum categories, and a whole host of other requests are silly and supercillious. We are very pleased that you have chosen this one as your great unveiling. Quite well done. Perhaps your next feat might be finding a way to add one more color combination to the PBase menu bar. I am sure that would be well received and might earn an incredible amount of respect from the community. Again thank you, I can't say that enough these days.

Glad you have joined the team, Chris.

I certainly like the new feature.

Thanks Chris. It is good to have another one in the PTeam.
Dude; just note one thing; the first permanent feature we want is information. And I think I´m speaking for everyone here.
Thanks for your nice post and info!
Matias

Welcome

I agree whole heartedly

Now that's what I would call silly and supercillious compared to the wishes or requests of others. I would rank a "slideshow" feature higher on the list. Something that's functional. But, to each his own.

Sorry 10kzoomfz, I forgot to insert the BBCode for sarcasm. I hope someone got it

Nice addition Chris and welcome.

There is one more functionality very similar to this that would be a great ddition - the "Add Comment" textarea box.As of now, you can either enable it and waste screen space or the page has to load after the link has been clicked. A JS based alternative to this feature would ne nice!

Srijith,
Good idea. In fact Chris has already been experimenting with various parts of the comment system (posting, and management), and we've been discussing all kinds of ways for javascript to improve the site interface since right now it's mostly my crude html, 1990s style.
One rule we're trying to stick to though is that javascript won't be required.
Although most people are using browsers that support it, we don't want to break the site for those who can't or don't want to use javascript.

Effective!!

Yes this is a pleasant change. But my main problem is when people say they voted but then just don't.Hey if you don't want to vote then don't I don't bite!!! This is really frustrating isn't it a way to see who has vote or not? And if this is a bit difficult and I understand that maybe with the hit sum there could be a vote sum for the pisture and the gallery?I believe this is not hard to accomplice and this way maybe some @@#$#$**!! would consider voting trully or not.I mean if you have 4 comments saying they voted and then only 2 vote counts ansd this keeps happening with various galleries then you'll eventually discover who's the @@$##%%!!Please take this under consideration I believe many have the same problem with me!!Thank you...

Update: we fixed a bug that was causing the vote option to appear on galleries where voting had been disabled.

AJAX-tastic! Cheers. It may be a small thing but it certainly indicates to me a welcome willingness.

Thanks, I had been gone so returning it was a surprise the way this was working. BUT, I like it.

If they let you work on the forums, could you make the Notify me when a reply is posted works or the thing where you watch a topic. That would be a FANTASTIC FIX.

Again, welcome aboard, and thanks.--Rene

Why is it that sometimes I vote and DON'T get the "Thanks for Voting" message?

I just got this on Dom's gallery, but I had it elsewhere too.

I'm not sure why this would happen. What browser are you using and can you provide a direct link to a gallery that is having this problem?

Anyone else experiencing this?
