I've been a Nikon user for about 20 years, and as reviewers go, KR isn't known for his objectivity. Best to read his disclaimer first.
The D200 is Nikon's 'semi-pro' 'prosumer' top of the range consumer (i.e. non pro range) DSLR. What does that give you?
Full ‘Pro’ level connectivity (PC flash sync, Ai metering, Nikon 10-pin remote)
Decent size (having come from an F90 I find even my D70s too small and child like, incredibly the D40/50/80 are even smaller!)
Solid build, metal chassis, weatherproofing gaskets, shutter tested to 200,000 clicks
Oft use button functions for direct access to things that on lesser consumer cameras are in the menu (ISO, WB, Quality, etc.)
It’s not all about image quality, it’s a great deal to do with build quality and usability.
Someone on DPReview summed it up better than I ever could when they said (and I’m paraphrasing here), “If you have to ask whether you should get the D80 or D200, get the D80â€
