Just bought a Nikon D-80 and noticed that there are no markings on the lense barrel. How does one now determine the correct focus point to have the extended DOF. I understand the concepts of DOF, hyperfocal distance ,circle of confusion etc.

If it's one of Nikon's modern budget consumer lenses that don't even get a distance scale (e.g. 18-55mm, 18-135mm) then you're out of luck.

For lenses with a distance scale but no DoF markings, or DoF markings intended for 35mm use (DX will be different) then just make notes from this site:
