WEEKLY INFORMAL CHALLENGE 147: "Seeing the Unseen"

Post Thu Jan 31, 2013 4:32 pm

Weekly Informal Challenge number 147 is "Seeing the Unseen"

"We do not need more intellectual power, we need more spiritual power. We do not need more of the things that are seen, we need more of the things that are unseen." -Calvin Coolidge

One of the the most pleasing aspects of photography is capturing something that is unique (both for the photographer and viewer) or what we would classify as "seeing the unseen". This does not have to mean strictly that the subject has never been seen by others but it can mean things that are often overlooked, ignored or just not seen in a special light or special way.

PERSONAL EXAMPLE: I find quite literally that "seeing the unseen" in infrared photography brings me great pleasure. I have always been fascinated by the unique underworld offered by macro (and super macro) photography allowing me to look closely at things often "unseen" by the casual observer. Well, you get the idea.

Think in terms of stretching yourself. Take the time to study your subject considering the included elements in the composition. Be aware of the unique or challenging light and use it to your advantage. Use the tools you have (camera, lens(es), processing software, eyes, etc) to your advantage. Dig deep and let the scene before you stir your spirit. Be sure to HAVE FUN!

Here is mine. To be truthful, I'm not sure I understood this one. I guess I'm too literal. And I don't shoot IR or do Photoshop every well. However, this is film so there is no way I could see this until I developed it. The shutter could have stuck open and it could have been all white. And I am heading out of January and into February is as yet unseen. I'm going with that. :)

Here's my take on "Seeing the Unseen". I was the only person to see Guapo the Jaguar have breakfast this morning. I did not know that I got the shot until I came home. This is a very unusual sight by the way. I have been a member of the San Diego Zoo for years, and have never seen a Jaguar eat so close to a human.

seeing the unseen ....

In Belgium there was this weekend a national bird counting weekend ... so we had to feed them to see them ...
so .. feeding the "unseen birds" in the garden .. make it possible to see them ! and of course to make photo's of them :-)

with succes , we had 17 different species in our garden this weekend !
