Weekly Challenge: "Best of 2012"

Let's end the year with a different challenge. We'd like you to post your best photograph of 2012. The challenging part besides deciding which photograph to post, is to have you explain to us why you think it is your best.

A few simple rules:

1. Themes are posted on Fridays to give you the weekend to come up with a FRESH shot for the challenge to post through Monday.

2. This is about interaction, learning, being challenged and having fun so... HAVE FUN!

3. The themes are specific but interpretations are broad. Stay on theme but PLEASE feel free to think outside the box.

4. Look at others' submissions, comment as moved to do so and offer supportive and constructive feedback. Please don't just post for exposure. Look and at least comment on some.

5. Did we already mention: HAVE FUN!!!

Maybe not my best but it is my most significant picture of the year 2012.
Captured near Uluru in Central Australia, where a little whirlwind created a mystique experience.

Mine. Explanation beneath photo. I actually picked one of my favorites because I really can't judge "best" as in this photo is better than that photo.

A portrait of Adelaida on Dia de los Muertos in Old Town San Diego. She liked this one a lot, so I picked it for my image. I really like the way she is looking at me. First time I ever got that look of hers in an image.
This year was the first year I did a lot of portraits. I still have a lot of room for improvement, but I feel more at ease photographing people than I did before.
This photo was also used as a background image to advertise a new course at San Diego State University.

Happy New Year Everyone!

I have chosen the photo of Mono Lake as my best of this year. This is why:

First of all the place itself is amazing, like anything in the world that I've seen before. Tomasz and I spent almost whole day wandering around there, but mainly we were waiting for the sunset. We drove back to the first location as we thought it would be the best for sunset shots. When we got there it was full of Japanese photographers, really FULL!!! This would be OK if they shoot quietly, but they were behaving like crazy: shouting, running from place to place, suddenly appearing in front of our cameras with theirs, believe me I have never seen such crazy bunch of people! Tomasz and I were trying to find a peaceful spot but it did not work...
Suddenly, when the Sun disappeared behind the mountains, all those people took their equipment and left to their bus in the parking loft. The show was over. We stayed ALONE at the beach and then the light started changing in so many different ways that it astonished us. The best photos we did after sunset, just before dark. Coming back to our car in full dark, seeing nothing while looking for the pathway, shivering in freezing cold, but happy and even laughing that we left our warm hats and gloves in the trunk.

Hi Walter, great idea for the weekly challenge!

This is tough since there were many photos I took, that I liked in 2012, but this one is special for me, because it was so early in the morning in Kavala, Greece to see the arrival of the American Cruise Liner "Seven Seas Voyager" ....so majestic and quiet approaching the harbour!

Happy New Year 2013 to all of you!

Boris

The early morning light on the coast can be stunning. Here, at St Clair in Dunedin, it's a good place for people to relax and enjoy a little time to reflect.
I choose this image as it captures the ambience of the place, tells a story, has some humour and most of all I just like it. Happy New Year to all Pbasers.

“A photograph is a secret about a secret. The more it tells you, the less you know.”
― Diane Arbus

The quote pretty well sums up why. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
