October 2012 PaD Challenge - HAIKU

Post Sun Sep 30, 2012 12:46 pm

I changed our forum page about the Haiku discussion to be the landing page for this month's challenge.

Haiku? We can make our own haiku, or we can copy from books or internet. It is really pretty easy and many can be thought provoking. Autumn colors or Spring Blooms for our southern Pbasers, make great subject matter for Haiku. In fact, traditional Haiku required seasonal elements.

Haiku is simply sentences that are divided into 5 syllables, 7 syllables and then five. Entirely 17 syllables.
Japanese Haiku is composed of 17 sound units divided into three parts and it is written on one line.
English Haiku separates into 3 lines to divide the haiku. The line breaks act as a type of punctuation.
German Haiku is avaibable to find online and in fact, there are many German Haiku Poets who have won awards!
To see a Website with Haiku/Photography - look at this link http://575.tumblr.com/

Here are some lists of Haikus that I found online. Or you can find or write your own.

Haiku from the Master = Matsuo Basho (1644 ~ 1694) http://thegreenleaf.co.uk/hp/basho/00bashohaiku.htm
= Yosa Buson (1716 - 1783 ) http://thegreenleaf.co.uk/hp/buson/00haiku.htm

Other Haikus Lists from Google finds

If you use someone's haiku, you should post the authors name for credit.

Having just had a look at the link - this sounds interesting Lynn. I imagine it would be easier to check the poetry and then take an image to match...

I'm happy. Haiku sure sounds interesting - and I really have no idea what I'm supposed to do - but I'm keen to learn
Thanks Lynn

Sounds like a wonderful idea Lynn. I might take it with me as an idea and write some haiku's beneath my pictures, but this coming month is for me a bit difficult to participate, as I will be unable to comment. And I consider that as an important rule of the challenge.
Cheers Mieke

Hi all, here I am again, trying to participate , I have missed you a lot!
Thank you Lynn for this interesting challenge, I'll try to keep up with it, but I have to say I haven't got the remotest idea about Haiku, so this will be a real challenge!!!!!!
