WEEKLY INFORMAL CHALLENGE: WEEK 90

Post Fri Dec 30, 2011 3:52 am

Weekly Challenge: Your favorite image of 2011

Show us your favorite image you took and posted on your PBase Site in 2011.

The challenge part is that we would like you to tell us why it is your favorite and what makes it special to you.

A few simple rules:

1. Themes are posted on Fridays to give you the weekend to come up with a FRESH shot for the challenge to post through Monday.

2. This is about interaction, learning, being challenged and having fun so... HAVE FUN!

3. The themes are specific but interpretations are broad. Stay on theme but PLEASE feel free to think outside the box.

4. Look at others' submissions, comment as moved to do so and offer supportive and constructive feedback. Please don't just post for exposure. Look and at least comment on some.

5. Did we already mention: HAVE FUN!!!

What a great way to put a wrap on 2011 Walter. This stirred me to walk back through the year and think about (1) the events documented along the journey and (2) my photography throughout that journey. For fear of completely losing time over the next couple of days I will go ahead and submit this as my favorite from 2011:

Image

Several reasons this strikes a chord with me. First, two of my favorite photographic subjects are enjoying each others company in one of my favorite places (Cades Cove in the Great Smoky Mountains). Secondly it tells a story in their sweet interaction that hope will remain true in the years to come but I know likely will be challenged by tension as they grow up. It also brings back a memory of a wonderful trip that we took in spite of the economic challenges presented in 2011 that will undoubtedly be remembered by these two for years to come.

I hope everyone can look back on 2011 and smile while hoping for and anticipating better days ahead on 2012. Happy New Year!

I have chosen this one of my Gallery 40 pictures of Feeling Sad

It symbolizes sadness, the loss of a loving relationship due to an incurable disease and the resilience to build up a new existence.
Yet I didn’t want to have missed all these experiences, it is part of life and has enriched me.
And in hindsight I’m proud that I was able to give the necessary care to my beloved Fay.

Have a happy 2012

I have chosen this photo of my granddaughter and her best friend .....

Image

When you’re a 16 year old girl, boys have become a big part of your life. But a “very best girlfriend” is an absolute necessity!

This is my granddaughter Morgen, on the right, with her “bestie”, Elizandra. What makes this photo so special is the fact that the very next morning Elizandra and her family were moving (lock, stock, and barrel) from south Florida to Brazil. The girls were both devastated. Although this picture, and others, show beautiful smiles, there were many tears in between. I was honored that they asked me to document their last day together.

May you all have an extraordinary New Year,
Janet

Of the shots I took this year, this one is the most emotive and makes me pause for personal reflection each time I see it.

This photo was taken just days after we adopted Lucy - and it signifies a turning point in her life as well as ours. Her expression of deep thought could be interpreted as quiet remembering, contentment, hope or even confusion due to all the changes in her life that week. For me it's understanding and accepting that there's room in our life for the love of another unwanted dog - just as we opened our home and hearts for our boys so many years ago.

I've also made a collection of my other favorite shots of 2011 that can be viewed here (if you'd like).

Thank you and a Happy New Years to all.

Certainly not my best photo of 2011, but my favorite for several reasons. It is a group portrait of most of the over 60 photographers who attended the summer picnic of The Pacific Photographic Society. There are people of all ages and different walks of life in the photo, from over a dozen different countries and many special and friendly photographers with great talent. The reasons I like the photo is that everybody is having a good time, everybody is getting along with one another and that there is a very positive vibe. Organizing this group is very fulfilling for me because I have seen so many photographers really get into their passion and I have see so many friendships form. If only the rest of the world could get along like we do.

A great challenge....it was fun going back through the year and an appropriate time to do it. Here's my image and my explanation:

http://www.pbase.com/image/140669472

Selecting a favourite shot from all my posted images over the past year was a daunting task. I finally narrowed it down to my favourite subjects and started from there. While I have many 'favourites' a sunrise is one of my very favourites. The quiet and beauty of the sunrise always fills me with calm and it brings the promise of new and exciting possibilities in the hours ahead. I was particularly please with this shot because I managed to catch the sun at that magic moment when it breaks over the skyline.

May the New Year bring you good health, happiness and an abundance of great photo ops!

My entry for this week
http://www.pbase.com/image/140673049

I thought about this and decided on this one because it is the one that I felt I finally "Got It" with working with PhotoShop.
I had been having some help with my photos and editing them but a family situation caused me to make that "JUMP" and not rely on "Mom" any more as they were busy moving my grandparents. Still hadn't had a phone lesson on Signatures and copyrights but I felt the color was Amazing.
So with that THANK YOU! mom for your help and guidance, and to dad for the 10pm phone calls on Lightening instructions.
Hoping everyone has a GREAT 2012
Happy New Year and thank you all for your comments last year
Carla

One of my favorites of 2011 is http://www.pbase.com/timbg/image/136456325

Every year I produce a calendar to give to my family and friends. I usually have about 75 - 100 images that I have to narrow down to 12 and I find that process to be extremely difficult. Part of the problem is that I take a wide variety of subject matter. So, I may have a favorite train, flower, bird, landscape, etc. photo; but an overall favorite is difficult to choose. The above photo did make my calendar this year. I like it because the framing is mostly circular with all the edges fading to black. My photo club decided to shoot a local park at dusk this past summer instead of sitting around talking, so the shoot was somewhat impromptu. This image is a large culvert under the railroad which serves as an entrance to the park (and the house in the photo).

I hope everyone has a great 2012!!
Tim :D
