Well, I'm really doing a "flash" challenge this month, but I'll try posting anything that may qualify as "minimal" in this thread.

Does this?

Having taken a quick look at the submissions so far, and done a bit of googling, I find myself more confused about what "minimalism" means than when I started. I think it probably has multiple potential interpretations, all valid.

There is a recognized "minimalism" movement in art - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minimalism - and certainly some of the photographs posted so far would fit in with that definition. A minimalist artwork is more likely to emphasize the shapes, patterns, textures and colors (and their interaction) in the image than on the "subject".

However the article also says "The term "minimalist" is often applied colloquially to designate anything which is spare or stripped to its essentials" and I think that was the usage I was thinking of when I took my "Champagne" picture. I think your fishing picture and a few others here would fit that.

Minimalist could also suggest the use of minimal equipment, and I am sure there are other meanings too. Should be a fun challenge to watch!

Maybe too much detail in this one http://www.pbase.com/tedparkins/image/107676181

Best wishes for a 'snap-happy' 2009.

I think I'll try and see if I can keep up with both the flash and the minimalism (and the positive spin too!)

Here's my January 1st minimal shot (I think).

I don't think this is technically minimalistic, but all I could come up with today.
