In lightroom can we make it the work with or normal file and not to import every thing?

I've been trialling Lightroom and it's up to Adobe usual standard of NOT being very intuitive. From everything I can tell you can only import then export - no normal options like open and save. It looks like it has great potential, but also looks like it will be more work than is required for a casual snapper like me!
Yes - Here is the information you are looking for.

Stick with it and don't be discouraged by those who don't know anything about the program. Here is a great site to learn about the options for importing photos or folders - it's all up to you.

I'm not sure if the comment was directed at me. I wasn't qualifying myself as knowing about the program, merely stating my experience. As I said it looks like it has great potential. Like all Adobe products it needs tools (books etc) to get the most from the program.

not bragging or anything but I found Lightroom to be very intuitive, I think I picked up the basics in minutes and most of the advanced stuff (except the web part which doesn't interest me) in a couple of days.
I guess the first thing is you have to realise ... Lightroom is not really a raw converter (though it does that well enough), nor is it an image editor (though it is capable of 90% of your image editing needs)....
no - rather Light room is a image catalogue manager (database/library/collection/{any other word for amalgamation of files} Manager)...
As such the idea of opening/editing/saving/forgetting-about an individual image is pretty much contrary to it's whole "raison d etre"
In fact it's little more than a Database Administration program with imaging plugins
Ironically this is where I find the current version of Lightroom fails me the most - not being able to handle multiple libraries stored in multiple (physical) locations.. can be done with "under the hood" work each time you want to jump to a different physical library - ah well as an amateur I can live with that for now.
HOWEVER if I just want to manipulate a single (a few) image in Lightroom (which I want to do some times) I put it (them) in a folder (so it's the only image (images) there)
Open Lightroom then import the image(s), manipulate them export them and then, if I don't want to keep the original, delete them out of the Lightroom database. Not elegant but does the trick and as I only do it occasionally it doesn't get on my nerves much
