Greetings, can ANYONE help me. I dusted off my old ae-1 and the mirror seems to be "stuck" in the up position. I am unfamiliar with this camera. IT has a brand new battery and it seems like it is just plain dead. HELP

Might be gummy foam

Most cameras from the AE-1's era use foam rubber to soften the mirror impact as it is pulled up quickly before the shutter is opened. Unfortunately this foam rubber deteriorates as time goes by, sometimes becoming sticky like gum. That may be what's happened to your camera. You might be able to loosen the mirror with a toothpick, but it will almost certainly be a mess and need cleaning - and the foam will need to be replaced. You can try that yourself or give it to a camera repairman to fix. The camera itself is worth 50-100 dollars on eBay.
